The Abyss aims to evoke the nightmarish agony that resides in going through the self experience of being caged within the consciousness’ abyss of incommunicability. It is the corporal narration of experiencing an affective disorder: a depressive con- dition implicating the absence of feelings. This inner alienation can occur when the subject undergoes a trauma that triggers a subconscious defense mechanism that freezes the capacity of the body to feel. This experience of void can be discontinuo- us and censor feelings in different ways, threatening the capacity of the subject to relate empathically with itself and the outward. The rigid contractions of the lim- bs and intensity of the touching try to communicate the excruciating frustration of this experience. Whether the flesh descends within the abyss of non-existence, the desire of life still enfolds its movements. The body keeps trying to feel something.
